Falafel

So let’s make some falafel!

Ingredients for this Recipe:

  • 2 1/4cups chickpeas (cooked or canned (rinsed))
  • 1 large garlic clove, chopped finely
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 3/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 1/2tsp dry parsley
  • 1 1/2tsp dry cilantro
  • 1 egg
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 cup flour, plus 1/4 cup flour for shaping the patties
  • vegetable oil
  • OPA Greek yogurt feta dill
  • 1 cucumber
  • pickles
  • hot sauce
  • flour tortilla
  1. In a bowl mix chickpeas, garlic, cumin, cayenne, parsley, cilantro, egg, lemon juice, and season with salt.
  2. Place in food processor and pulse to combine. The mix will not be smooth, but should not have huge pieces.
  3. In a separate bowl mix baking powder and flour.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the food processor with the chickpea mix and pulse to combine.
  5. Remove from processor to a bowl and refrigerate for 1/2 hr.
  6. Remove chickpea mix from refrigerator. Add plenty of oil to your fry pan and heat on med-high.
  7. Meanwhile, on a plate spread a 1/4 cup of flour and form the chickpea dough into patties, patting each side in the flour.
  8. Fry in the pan of hot oil for 3-4 min each side.
  9. Turn your oven on low while the patties cook and heat the flour tortilla to your liking.
  10. Once the falafel patties are done, break them into pieces on your warm flour tortilla.
  11. Serve with chopped cucumber, pickles, and whatever else you may enjoy (I added chopped avocado the last time, yum)
  12. Drizzle with OPA dressing and Hot Sauce!

Enjoy!!!
