Original Granola Bar Recipe

So let’s make some granola!

Ingredients for this recipe:

  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 cups quick instant Oates
  • 1 3/4 cup rice crispy cereal
  • 1/2 cup almonds (chopped in food processor)
  • 1/4 cup flax meal
  1. Line a glass baking pan with foil overlying the handles so it will be easy to remove later.
  2. in a food processor chop 1/2 cup almonds. Some will be finely chopped while others will be in small pieces. Set aside for later.
  3. In large pot add butter, brown sugar, and all of the honey.
  4. on med-high heat stir constantly until slight boil and sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to low and stir constantly for an extra minute.
  5. turn off stove and remove pot from heat.
  6. add vanilla and salt and mix.
  7. Add Oates, rice crispy cereal, flax meal, and the chopped almonds to the mixture.
  8. fold all the ingredients together.
  9. pour the mixture onto your foil lined glass baking dish.
    press down the granola.20160329_124259
  10. Refrigerate until firm ( about an hour)
  11. pull the tinfoil out of the baking pan flipping the granola onto a cutting board. Remove the tinfoil and cut your granola into bars.

* the granola will be hard. You can let it sit a minute to soften so it is easier to cut.

* keep your bars in a sealed container in the refrigerator. They will be hard. You can eat them crunchy or chewy (when ready to eat one let it sit out of the refrigerator for a minute or two to soften and have a chewy granola bar)! We like ours chewy!! Mmmm
*before step 10 you can decide to add chocolate chips and then press down the granola or maybe just drizzle with chocolate or peanut butter? The options are endless!
Enjoy!!
